Elevate was a distinct project within the Manchester Day Parade that aimed to raise the artistic impact of the event for both communities and arts professionals, by engaging with two artists (Ali Pretty & Richard Sharples) of international and national significance to influence inspire and share practice with artists, designers and participants across the parade. The project melded those established artists of national standing with mid-career artists from the Manchester region.
Ali Pretty (Artistic Director, Kinetika) and Emily Wood engaged with Societa’ Dante Alighieri to develop and produce a 50 person section representing the story of Dante’s Inferno. Emily was specially selected as one of the three artists to work on this fantastic mentorship programme.
“Good to have artists apply and be interviewed. Good practice and process for them. Emily was a perfect match for me/Kinetika, and at the right point in her career for this experience. It worked really well, her coming to London at various stages of the production, and I think she was able to learn a lot of new techniques that will be useful to her. We had a good mentoring session about the future of her company … I agreed to be on her board and will continue to support the vision as required.”
