Journey of the Orixas

Journey of the Orixas

‘Journey of the Orixas’ took place at Manchester Day Parade on Sun 2nd June 2013 and the second performance at Big Drum Day, Chorley, on Sun 4th August 2013. This project was a Cabasa Carnival Arts and Global Grooves collaboration to bring a shared vision of the celebration of new traditions, values and cultures produced as a result of migrant communities across the world learning to settle together and share their experiences.

Volunteering was a lovely way to be part of the 'back stage' process. I learned new skills and it's also a lovely opportunity to meet new people and work with those who turn up each year. There is a sense of a growing volunteer team now. This year I had a much clearer idea of who was there and why. Emily made a point of introducing the volunteers (and paid artists) to each other and it worked really well and felt really inclusive.
