Juba do Leão

Juba do Leão

In 2010 Cabasa were commissioned by Juba Do Leão to design and create costume for this unique multi discipline arts collective specialising in Brazilian percussion dance and melody. They were first worn as part of the 'RNCM project' and have since been used at various events throughout the UK including Glasgow’s West End Festival, Cardiff Welsh Encontro, Manchester Day Parade in 2010 & 2011 and Juba’s album launch.

When we approached Cabasa Carnival Arts about developing Juba do Leão's costume, Emily already had an understanding of Brazilian traditional costume based in her creative involvement in related projects over the years. She worked with us to design stage wear which was comfortable, striking, paid homage to traditional dress whilst maintaining a modern edge, suited everyone, and featured options for everyone's individuality with colour themed accessories. Juba do Leão's stage costumes will be developed further in future with Emily to make an even bigger impact with our musical and dance presentation.
